Cougar sighting in Saanich

Saanich Police say a cougar has been spotted at Rithet’s bog in Broadmead.

Constable Jonathan Myers says the sighting happened shortly after 7:00 Monday evening.

“A local resident was walking a trail in Rithet’s Bog Conservation area which is park, pretty much in the centre of our municipality and she rounded a curve in the path, and was confronted about 30 feet distant by what certainly seems to have been a cougar.”

Myers says police went to the park and warned people in the area and called an emergency preparedness program which notifies the provincial conservation service.

He says the cougar didn’t act aggressively, and adds there have been sightings in that area before.
