We’re going to have to wait a while longer before a final decision is made on whether Vancouver schools will be equipped with “Mosquito” anti-vandalism devices.
The devices emit a high-frequency signal only really audible to younger people.
The School Board quickly pulled their use earlier this year after complaints from several groups.
A School Board committee has now decided to seek a legal opinion on the device’s use and will likely make a final decision on their implementation in June.
Robert Holmes, with the BC Civil Liberties’ Association, “We’ve got(ten) rid of corporal punishment in BC schools about 40 years ago or so, and the idea of putting a form of it back in place by having these mosquito devices in and around school yards, seems to us to be a retrograde step.”
