Cuts coming to BC Ferry service

The provincial government has wrapped up consultation on upcoming service cuts for BC Ferries…..but the next step is more consultations.

Four thousand people gave input on what and where to cut ferry services last fall.

Transportation Minister Mary Polak says cuts are coming.

“Further discussions with the communities…as we start to plan for whatever reductions there need to be, we know that there will need to be reductions, the ferry commissioner is looking for about 26 million dollars.”

And those savings must be realized by 2016.

But Polak says there’s little chance any decisions on cuts will be made before the provincial election on May 14th.
