We’ll have to wait a bit longer for a decision on the Georgia and Dunsmuir viaducts.
Vancouver city council was supposed to have voted by now on whether to demolish the structures, but Vision Councillor Geoff Meggs suspects the vote won’t happen until January or February.
He says some key questions remain unanswered.
“Questions that are coming from council are financial and some of the ripple effects that might occur in terms of traffic movements in nearby neighbourhoods.”
But Meggs believes the viaducts will come down.
“Generally though, I think the community at large is pretty supportive. I’m not hearing very much criticism of the idea — I think what’s happening is staff are putting together a more detailed case to proceed, which is where they seem to be headed.”
He adds surface level roads would be built in place of the viaducts, along with parks and housing.
