Mistakes were made on handling the June 15 Stanley Cup riot but let’s not dwell on the ‘what ifs’, Vancouver Police Jim Chu said Thursday.
“I agree in hindsight, we should have used more police officers,” Chu said following the release of the provincial review. “If I had known there was going to be a riot that night, I would have added way more police officers.”
But Chu said the review confirmed there was no amount of officers that could’ve prevented the riot.
The unanticipated early arrival of the crowd made it difficult for police officers to be deployed quickly, he added.
