Delta hunkering down after issuing storm warning

Boundary Bay, Beach Grove, Tsawwassen Beach and Westham Island are busy preparing for a storm expected early Monday morning, which could include a storm surge and high winds during high tides.

The Corporation of Delta’s Chief Administrative Officer George Harvie says there could be flooding in the region.

“We do expect some localized flooding and we’re prepared to assist residents. We’ve already blocked off a lot of our beach access, weak points, we’ve made sandbags available. Our crews, from our knowledge of previous events, have really put a focus on some of our weak points.”

The storm is forecast to be one of the biggest in years, arriving in full force sometime between 4am and 10am Monday morning.
