B.C. teachers will vote during their AGM, which starts this weekend, on whether to withdraw from extra-curricular activities in the face of Bill 22.
But Delta teachers have already decided where they stand.
They recently voted to not volunteer their time once school goes back after spring break.
“Withdrawing extra-curricular work is about the last possible thing that teachers can do to register their protest for this legislation and they do it with a great deal of reluctance. Teachers get a lot of satisfaction out of the work they do outside of the classroom.”
Delta Teachers’ Association president Paul Steer says teachers have been making the educational system work over the years amid diminishing circumstances.
But he says Bill 22 is the last straw, and teachers are starting to reconsider what they’ve been doing.
