Development Permit Board approves application that will likely see bowling alley gone

A development that will likely see Varsity Ridge Bowling demolished has been approved by the Development Permit Board…but those who want the centre saved are still feeling hopeful.

The board decided the development has to be four storeys rather than the five Cressey Development wanted.

They noted they’d like to see more discussion between the developer and the community.

Mel Lehan has been advocating for the alley to stay at Arbutus and West 15th Avenue.

“I think that we’re definitely open to talking with the developer and to seeing if we can make sure that a bowling alley is in there.”

The board cannot force the developer to include a bowling alley.

What happens next is up to Cressey.
