Diner held up by gunman

Coquitlam RCMP continue their search for a man who held up a Subway Restaurant in that city.

The suspect walked into the diner about 9:30 Wednesday evening showing a handgun and demanding money.

Staff sounded an alarm and more than a dozen officers made their way to the 600 block Clarke Road. The gunman had fled by the time they arrived.

Staff Sgt. Mark McCutcheon says they used tracker dogs but still came up empty. He thinks the thief got away in a vehicle.

McCutcheon says the bad guy had a white cloth over his face and was wearing black track pants during the robbery.

The clerk told police the gunman’s weapon looked similar to the 9mm semi-automatic pistols used by Mounties.

There were no injuries.
