It’s not often NDP Leader Adrian Dix agrees with something the Provincial Government is doing. But Dix likes the Health Ministry’s move to spend 22 million dollars hiring 190 nurse practitioners over the next three years.
“And so, I think in general, a greater use of nurse-practitioners is a good idea. In effect, what we’ve been doing is training nurse-practitioners and then seeing them go to the United States or Ontario because the Government that trained them didn’t think highly enough of the program to actually have jobs here. So, I’ve been campaigning on this for years, and I still think there’s more we can do.”
The Government says most of the new nurse-practitioners will work in health offices, medical clinics or residential care facilities.
