It’s a question Premier Christy Clark has repeatedly side-stepped since taking office, but the man most likely to unseat her has no problem offering his opinion on the creation of a regional police force.
Adrian Dix was asked about it after delivering his first-ever address to the Vancouver Board of Trade, “In the abstract, it seems like a good idea, but dramatic administrative change often has costs that far outweigh the potential benefits, you see. Costs of a massive organizational change to our policing system would be such that I think, it might be better to focus on what we have now and make it better.”
Dix says similar arguments have been raised to increase the number of BC’s Health Authorities to seven from five, but the costs attached would also detract from core health care goals.
