Dog slayer gets his day in Court Thursday

The man who admitted to slaughtering dozens of sled dogs near Whistler two years ago is making his first Court appearance Thursday in Pemberton.

In April, Robert Fawcett was formally charged with causing unnecessary pain or suffering to an animal.

The criminal prosecution stems from a joint investigation by the RCMP and SPCA who were alerted to the massacre by CKNW in the spring of 2010.

This, after Fawcett filed for and received compensation from Worksafebc. He claimed he suffered from post traumatic stress disorder.

The discovery of the slaughter prompted swift action from the Provincial Government to implement tough new anti-cruelty laws for sled dogs.

Fawcett’s due in Court at 9:30 a.m.
