A mourning mother of an 11-year-old girl who was murdered more than 36 years ago is hoping a $ 10,000 reward will encourage witnesses to come forward.
“I prayed and I asked God to give something that would work, and a week later I received an anonymous donation,” sobbed Shari Greer, at a RCMP press conference in Vancouver Thursday.
Greer’s daughter, Kathryn-Mary Herbert disappeared on Sept. 24, 1975. She was last seen walking to her home from a friend’s house on a Matsqui First Nation reserve near Abbotsford.
People searching for wood discovered her body two months later.
“For many years now I’ve been relentlessly pursing this case and trying to find answers,” said Greer. “I’m never going to lose hope.”
RCMP Insp. Gary Shinkaruk believes there are individuals who have information that police need to solve this case.
A convicted rapist was the only suspect in 1975, but he was never arrested.
Shinkaruk says police are still looking for a male driving a white, older model American vehicle that was parked where Herbert was last seen.
