DTES cop faces discipline

A disabled woman, shoved to the ground by a police officer in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside more than two years ago,  is pleased he’s still facing discipline, after having an assault charge against him dropped.

Constable Taylor Robinson, who was found guilty of neglecting his duty and abusing his authority, must undergo a formal disciplinary hearing this fall.

Following another closed door hearing August 10th, BC’s Police Complaint Commissioner rejected Robinson’s push for a one-day suspension and more training.

Sandy Davidsen’s lawyer, Scott Bernstein,  admits his client was surprised by the decision.

“It’s not the usual practice to reject this, but this is a case of unusual circumstances. There was actually a very in-depth and extensive investigative report that was quite critical of the officer and given those circumstances, OPCC is taking this case very seriously.”

Robinson’s assault charge was dropped when he agreed to an alternative measures process.

His formal hearing is set for October.

Davidsen wants a retired judge to review the case.. not a police officer.

Vancouver Police are refusing to comment, except to say it is an ongoing process and investigation.

They’ve also confirmed robinson remains on active duty in southwest Vancouver.
