As the community of Burns Lake begins the process of moving on from Friday’s deadly sawmill explosion, those in the town say they’ve been touched by the out-pouring of support from across the Province.
Bertha Michell has been running the recovery effort at the local hall, “I’m just keeping everybody going, and I have an assistant that’s helping me organize stuff here in the kitchen with breakfast, lunch and supper.”
She says ever since Friday’s fire, clothing, food and money have been steadily coming in to help the victims and their families, “It’s amazing how people can come up and do things, amazing.”
Two people were killed, and over a dozen injured.
Tensions in the town have been rising, as locals demand an answer to how the fire started, and those left unemployed wonder if they’ll somehow get their jobs back.
