Enbridge is reporting a leak from one of its pipelines–and says the initial estimate of the amount of oil leaked is about 1,200 barrels near Grand Marsh, Wisconsin.
On its website, the company says this afternoon, the Enbridge Pipelines Control Centre detected a drop in pressure on Line 14–a 24-inch pipeline that mainly transports light crude to refineries in the Chicago area.
The company says the line was shut down and emergency crews sent out.
It says the oil has been contained in a field.
The cause is not yet known, and it’s not yet known when the line could be restarted.
No one was injured.
The company wants to construct the Northern Gateway Pipeline, which would carry bitumen from northern Alberta to Kitimat, to then be shipped to Asia.
