Ethiopian wins Vancouver marathon

Marathon runners took over Vancouver Sunday, running on a new course that began at Queen Elizabeth Park.

Twenty-year-old Gezahgn Eshetu from Ethiopia was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, and 53 seconds.

Eshetu is in Canada for the first time and found Vancouver temperatures a little chilly.

“It was very cold for him so he had his gloves on the last kilometer. So it wasn’t easy for him because of the cold,” says Benard Onsare, who finished in second place.

Thirty-year-old Ellie Greenwood from North Vancouver won in the female category.

Her time was 2 hours, 42 minutes, and 18 seconds.
