Families affected by police-related deaths and injuries form group

A mother whose son died in northern BC after mounties shot him in the head is part of a group of families affected by police-related deaths who are forming a group to push for police accountability.

Linda Bush, who lost her son Ian in 2005, says the group is just as much about helping families get through the painful process as it is about pushing for change.

“We always hope there’s going to be no new victims, but reality is, there probably will be and I think we’re probably going to try and offer some help for those kind of people and work on continuing education for law changes.”

The group is receiving legal advice and guidance from the BC Civil Liberties Association, which hosted the group’s first meeting at their downtown offices.
