Father of slain student pleas for witnesses

SURREY, B.C. – The father of a 19-year-old student shot dead last month on a Surrey, B.C. university campus is pleading for anyone with information about his daughter’s killer to come forward.

Upwards of 50 police officers have been investigating the slaying of Maple Batalia, a model, actor and student who died after being shot on the Simon Fraser University campus last week.

Batalia’s father, Harkirat, told reporters Friday evening he doesn’t wish the same fate on any home “in this universe,” and appealed to the killer to go to the law.

Mounties with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team also released surveillance video Friday of the suspect’s white Dodge Charger leaving the murder scene on Sept. 28.

Batalia had a small role in the movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” and was modelling and acting to help pay for her education.

Her father called Batalia his “little angel” as he urged people to put away fear and come forward to police, saying Canada delivers some of the best justice in the world.
