Federal riding boundaries up for debate

With additional seats up for grabs in the next federal election, riding boundaries throughout B.C. are up for debate.

B.C. is set to gain six seats.

With that shuffle the lines on the electoral map are set to shift.

A number of residents from ridings throughout Vancouver gave their suggestions to the commission responsible for drawing up the new map at a public hearing on Monday night.

Most largely agreed with the commission’s initial proposals, but had suggestions.

Vancouver South resident Bhalwinder Singh Waraich says he disagrees with some longstanding communities potentially seeing a split.

“The communities I think should be kept intact because that is a very important community. Like being Oakridge, Marpole, Kerrisdale, Point Grey — those communities are like a family.”

Waraich did say the commission has a tough job and agrees largely with their proposal for his riding.
