Ferry evacuated, sailings cancelled after bomb threat against Queen of Coquitlam

A bomb threat against the Queen of Coquitlam ferry at Nanaimo’s Departure Bay terminal has cancelled sailings and forced officials to evacuate the boat.

“There’s a bomb threat, we just got turned away and were sent to Duke Point. We were just sitting in line to go there, and they’re just sending us over to Duke Point,” says one caller to CKNW.

Here’s Deb Marshall with B.C. Ferries.

“We’ve had a bomb threat against the Queen of Coquitlam, so out of an abundance of caution, we’ve evacuated the vessel. It was in-dock at Departure Bay at the time loading, and we’ve evacuated the vessel. We’ve got a couple of K-9 screening dogs, bomb-sniffing dogs, on the way down to the terminal right now to complete the search.”

The cancelled sailings were the 3:10 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. on the Departure Bay-Horseshoe Bay route.
