Fight against Kits closure ramps up

55 lives saved so far this year.

Staff at the Kitsilano Coast Guard base are launching a public appeal aimed at keeping that station alive.

They claim to have saved nine lives alone over the long weekend.

A strong municipal-political contingent, joined both base personell and union staff in a public call on the Harper government to reverse its decision to close the base.

Vancouver city councillor Kerry Jang:

“As my son said to be over the weekend: let’s put the Prime Minister and his cabinet out adrift in the harbour for 30 minutes, and see how they like it”

A motion will also come before vancouver city council next week on the matter.

Coast Guard service will come from Richmond’s Sea Island starting this fall.
