Fight against shark fin continues

The Vancouver Animal Defense League is continuing its fight against the sale of shark fin soup in the Lower Mainland.
The league is set to present its case for a ban at Surrey City Council.
League spokesman Anthony Marr says many of those who hunt sharks for their fins don’t care whether certain species are endangered.

“Those species have been cut down by about 99 percent, leaving about one to two percent or half of one percent left. And they’re still taking whatever I can, and by them I mean the shark finners.”

Marr adds he has been invited to make similar presentations to Langley, Duncan and Maple Ridge City Councils in the coming weeks.
Port Moody, Coquitlam, North Vancouver and Nanaimo have bans in place.
