Fight grows to ban shark fins in Metro Vancouver

More and more municipalities are listening to and hearing arguments for banning the Chinese delicacy.

Vancouver city councillor Kerry Jang says officials from Vancouver, Burnaby, and Richmond have been talking over the past week about a regional.

Jang says it’s important to have all three at the table.

“If Vancouver had a ban, people would go to Richmond or Burnaby, or if Burnaby had a ban, people would go to Richmond or something like that.  All people would have to do actually, is cross a bridge to get shark fin.”

The Animal Defense League says it has made a presentation to Richmond officials, and will make a similar one to Surrey city council in the fall.

Jang adds the Union of BC Municipalities will vote also this fall on a motion to request the province to impose a regional ban.
