Fire survivors get update Friday

Employees at Ken Johnson Trucking will get an update Friday after Tuesday’s massive blaze destroyed their Port Kells maintenance building.

Ken Johnson says he has no plans to lay staff off. Johnson says despite the fire, operations continue as normal.

He says considering the size of the explosion and fire it was a blessing no one was killed, “We were fortunate the one employee who was injured, had second degree burns to about 10-percent of his body, You know, the doctors are anticipating a full recovery. They may have to do a skin graph on his elbow. Other than that there is nothing. I don’t want to say not serious, of course this is totally serious, but that is the extent of what they expect.”

Investigators still don’t know what triggered the blast.
