Five arrested in Mexico for murder of UBC grad student

Five people have been arrested in Mexico, in connection for the murder of a UBC student in Mexico.

Authorities say three women are among the five arrested for the murders of 39-year-old Ximena Osegueda and her Mexican boyfriend

Three others accused in the crime remain at large.

The couple disapeared in December, and their remains were found half-buried in a beach near Huatulco.

Both had been stabbed in the neck.

Police believe the pair were targeted for a robbery, since they were driving a new vehicle.

Osegueda was working on a PhD in Latin American Studies at UBC.
