River levels haven’t peaked yet in either Prince George, Hope, or Mission, but officials are saying when they do, the impact on the Lower Mainland is expected to be minimal.
Dave Campbell with the BC River Forecast centre says the rate of rise in Prince George is dropping.
It’s expected to peak at about the ten metre mark this evening.
That water will make its way down through the Fraser system.
“It typically takes about two and a half days to three days to see the peak down on the lower Fraser, so we’re expecting flows at hope to hit their peak on Friday, around about midday, and then that to extend through the day as we get into the lower Fraser system.”
Localized heavier snowmelt rates and rainfall into Friday and Saturday could mean increased inflows into the lower Fraser in the Fraser Valley and tributary rivers, possibly creating extra inflow, similar to last weekend.
