Flood threat decreases in the Okanagan

The snow will keep melting as spring unfolds, but regional officials say Chute Lake residents are likely safe from any more floods.
An evacuation order for 47 homes in the area, north of Penticton, has been lifted, after government engineers went to work to reduce the water level.
Dale Kronebusch with the Okanagan-Similkameen Regional District says residents should still take caution at lake’s and river’s edge.

“Waterways and creeks are really starting to run now. So people need to be aware that the edges are a little slippery and it’s really easy to slip in, and then you get caught in the swift current and you’re going for a ride.”

He adds an voluntary evacuation alert for 272 homes in Tulameen, north of Princeton, will likely remain in place until all the snow there melts.
