Flood watch underway in Valley

All eyes may be on the Fraser River level in Mission, as area residents remain on flood alert. But officials in Langley Township say an order to evacuate depends a lot on precipitation.

Roeland Zwaag, Director of Public Works, says there’s no exact water level to trigger such an order, “Even (though) we’re predicting it’s going to be 6.75 metres, it still depends on the amount of rain that’s going to come down or not come down over the next couple of days.”

About 150 township homes are still on evacuation alert, as well as homes in Hope and on Barnston Island.

Meanwhile, residents in three Chilliwack homes at Carey Point were ordered out Thursday evening, as officials expected the Fraser to breach dikes. The Fraser is set to peak on the Lower Mainland this weekend.
