Focus on Uganda

The teachers’ strike may be on most parents’ minds, but their children might be occupied with something else: an online video about an east African warlord.

An American charity called Invisible Children is asking social media users to share the half-hour video in the hopes of exposing Uganda’s Joseph Kony and his Lord’s Resistance Army, “For 26 years, Kony has been kidnapping children into his rebel group, the LRA, turning the girls into sex slaves and the boys into child soldiers.”

As of tonight (last night), the video had been watched more than 11 million times on YouTube, after being posted just two days earlier.

However, many people have criticized the charity online for its motives, suggesting people think twice before donating to its cause.
