Former attorney-general to oversee B.C.’s legal team at Enbridge hearings

The provincial government has hired a former attorney-general to lead B.C.s team at the Enbridge hearings.

Premier Christy Clark has announced Geoff Plant’s appointment at YVR, as he and the environment minister prepare to fly to Edmonton for the National Energy Board hearings.

“He will be our chief legal strategist. He’s going to making sure that we get the answers to the questions that we need, because i know that for British Columbians and for me, the impact of this pipeline is vitally important.”

Plant says he will focus on the proposed pipeline’s financial liability for spill response and prevention during cross-examination.

He won’t actually be asking any of the questions though. That will be left up to the regulatory lawyers from within the Environment Ministry.

The hearings run until December in Edmonton, Prince George, and Prince Rupert.
