At a public consultation forum Health Minister Mike de Jong was non-committal when asked how much a proposed new campus for the Burnaby Hospital could cost taxpayers.
“That’s premature. What you hear being discussed tonight is everything from where a new campus should be located. My sense is there is great enthusiasm for redeveloping the existing site but that’s not a given.”
Doctor David Jones, the Medical Coordinator at Burnaby Hospital, said after the forum that a new facility could be built for 500-million dollars.
The planning for the new hospital, or renovation of the existing hospital, is in the very early stages, with public forums scheduled throughout the summer.
