Despite the criticism it faces every year, the Fraser Institute is standing by its annual ranking of BC high schools.
The institute’s Peter Cowley calls it an important tool to see how well a school performs, even if it highlights challenges students in certain neighbourhoods face.
And as universities move away from relying on just school marks for admission, Cowley says he wishes there was more data to use for the rankings.
Cowley is calling on the BCTF and school trustees who criticize the rankings to admit they can’t do more to help vulnerable students…and if that’s the case, perhaps the entire system needs an overhaul.
