The chair of Science World’s board of directors calls it unexpected.
The provincial government has cut funding for a program that brings science to kids.
Andrew Harries says the program takes Science World on the road, reaching kids all over B.C. who otherwise would never get a chance to visit the Vancouver attraction.
He says it’s important “in terms of turning them onto science and technology, the joys of learning it, and the career choices that are available if you decide to pursue those fields.”
Harries says its budget is $ 2 million – mainly, if not solely, funded by the province.
He adds looking at the program as a budget line worries him, because students who enter science, technology, and math fields are a key part of Canada’s future.
