The man in charge of organizing the 2010 Olympics is calling the latest unproven allegations made against him by a reporter he’s suing for defamation ‘completely unfounded.’
A statement was released late this afternoon.
The Twentyten Group, which handles media requests for Furlong, has issued a two-paragraph response, calling Laura Robinson’s statement of defence an ‘unfounded attack on his character and reputation.’
His legal team is promising to make a ‘full and complete’ formal response in court.
The statement also claims Furlong is ‘confident he will ultimately be vindicated by the court,’ but ‘his primary concern right now is the irreparable harm being caused to his family.’
Furlong sued Robinson in November after the Georgia Straight published her article claiming he’d physically abused students when he was teaching in northern BC more than 40 years ago.
New allegations, which have not been proven in court, claim he also abused his former wife and common law spouse.
