Furlong goes on line to defend reputation

Days after refusing to take questions at a hastily-called news conference in Vancouver, the man responsible for organizing the 2010 Olympics is quite willing to defend his early years in Canada….online.

John Furlong has posted a statement on his website titled ‘Setting the record straight on my life and family.’

He still claims a Georgia Straight story which broke last Thursday is libelous,  insisting he did nothing wrong while working as a teacher in Burns Lake and Prince George between 1969 and 1972, before returning to Ireland.

Furlong goes on to accuses the writer of the article of having ‘open contempt’ for the Olympics and male authority figures in sport, but Laura Robinson and the Georgia Straight continue to stand 100 per cent behind her story.

We’ve tried to contact Furlong, but his staff are directing any questions to his lawyer Marvin Storrow, and he’s also been unavailable for comment.
