Garbage remains an issue on Lower Mainland

Metro Vancouver says it is not a done deal yet to move from landfills to incinerators to deal with the regions garbage.

Metro Chair Greg Moore says they are still trying to figure out what’s best for the region, “We have put our request for qualifications for a waste to energy facility. We don’t determine the technology and we haven’t determined the location. Whether it is in region or out of region we want the market to come forward and through both their experience, as well as looking at environmental and economic aspects of this project. It might be in region it might be out of region but we are still in that very beginning stage.”

Moore says they have also reached out to the Fraser Valley Regional District, who is opposed to garbage incinerators. He adds the investigation is still ongoing into possibly toxic fly ash from a Burnaby incinerator being shipped to the Cache Creek landfill.
