Goh see the Nutcracker

Anyone who knows me will tell you I enjoy a good ballet. Of course, for me, that can mean a pair of dancers pirouetting across a stage or a pair of pugilists punching it out in a ring.

Hey, I love the arts.

This week’s column, however, previews an actual ballet.

A pretty good one too, if local pundits are to be believed. (I haven’t seen it yet, so I’m forced to defer to Bill Murray’s title character in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou: “It was in the paper. I assumed they checked their facts.”)

The Nutcracker

The Goh Ballet’s acclaimed production of the holiday classic returns for its third year.

And according to executive producer Chan Hon Goh, director of the Goh Ballet Youth Company, it doesn’t matter if you’re a newbie or a seasoned ballet veteran, this one’s got something for everyone: award-winning dancers, gymnasts, ballroom couples, an illusionist, and live music performed by members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra.

Also, guest artists from American Ballet Theatre, who’ll share the stage with more than 200 local dancers.

“All of this provides an unforgettable live performance experience that has truly become Vancouver’s own holiday tradition,” she says.

The Nutcracker opens Dec. 15 and runs for six performances until Dec. 18 at the Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts.

Tickets range from $ 28 – $ 78 (plus taxes and service charges) and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.
