Grenade launcher found in Nanaimo hotel room

Three people have been arrested after police turned up a grenade launcher in a Nanaimo hotel room.

RCMP Constable Gary O’Brien says officers learned people linked to a room in the Harbourside Motel may have weapons.
The Emergency Response Team was called in this morning.

“Once inside, they found a 29-year-old female. She was taken into custody without incident. When they searched the room, they found a grenade launcher. It was about 18 inches long.”

No other weapons were found.

Another woman and man were later arrested — they are known to police.

O’Brien says the launcher can be attached to the barrel of many rifles to fire grenades a considerable distance.

Officers are trying to figure out if it is stolen or linked to any other investigations.

No charges have been laid yet.
