HEAT shelter neighbours, “demoralized and upset.”

They’re fed up with needles in their yards, in parks and on sidewalks on Seymour near Davie. They also say they’re afraid to go out at night.

Spokesperson Sharon Promislow says there needs to be better controls in place at the shelter, “It seems like the controls at the shelter have degenerated; there’s just a lot of breakout of needle usage, more loitering on the streets.”

The shelter’s run by Raincity Housing and their spokesperson is Leslie Remund who says she hasn’t heard of any complaints, “We work closely with the VPD to identify any emerging issues. We monitor the amount of police calls to the area. None of that has indicated there have been problems.”

Residents say their complaints have fallen on deaf ears at City Hall.

The HEAT is slated to close in May when the weather improves.
