Husband charged with B.C. woman’s murder

BURNABY, B.C. – The body of a 27-year-old Burnaby, B.C., woman has been found in the Fraser River and police have announced her husband has been charged with first-degree murder.

Yating Hu, a mother of two children, vanished in July.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the woman’s body was pulled from the river near Steveston on August 27, but the details were kept secret so police could advance the investigation.

James Mou, who has now been charged in the death, had told police he hadn’t seen Hu since he dropped her off at her apartment on July 15.

RCMP Sgt. Jennifer Pound calls the discovery of the woman’s body and the murder charge a tragic outcome for Hu’s family.

Her children are currently in the care of their paternal grandparents, but Pound says the Ministry of Children and Family Development will continually assess the situation.
