IIO finishes work at police-involved shooting scene near Cranbrook

Investigators with B.C.’s new civilian-oversight body into serious police-involved incidents have finished their initial work at a scene near Cranbrook.

The Independent Investigations Office was called Wednesday to the community of Yahk after a man was hit by RCMP gunfire the night before.

It happened as the Mountie stopped two people in an SUV – a vehicle police say was linked to a carjacking in the Creston area.

A pair from Port Coquitlam, a 26-year-old man and 17-year-old girl, now faces charges in the incident.

The IIO has collected evidence, canvassed the neighourbood and interviewed potential witnesses over the past three days.

Members now head back to their Surrey headquarters to review the information.
