Independent Investigation Office called after man dies following arrest

A 51-year-old Vancouver man has died in hospital after being arrested by Vancouver Police Sunday night.

The man was taken into custody just before 7 for causing a disturbance.  Police say he was intoxicated at the time.

The man was barred from detox, so officers instead offered to take him home, but when they arrived at the man’s home, he was unconscious.

The man was taken to hospital by ambulance.

VPD have called in the province’s Independent Investigation Office to look into the man’s death.
