After a long wait, the province will finally have an independent office to investigate police.
B.C. Civil Liberties Association Executive Director David Eby says it’s a big step.
“This is incredibly important in our organization’s opinion to re-establish public confidence in police accountability in this province that when things go awry that they’ll be investigated thoroughly and that the outcome will be one that can be relied on both by the police and by the public.”
The civilian-led office opens Monday and will investigate all serious incidents involving RCMP and municipal police.
It was originally scheduled to open by the end of last year.
