Initiative launched in Surrey to raise awareness of domestic abuse

Surrey’s banding together against domestic violence.

Mayor Dianne Watts and others have kicked off the “Rakhi Project” – a crime reduction initiative designed to raise awareness of domestic abuse…..

“basically what it is taking a traditional Indian ceremony where sisters traditionally tie purple bracelets on their brothers which signifies love and respect and it honours that relationship between brothers and sisters and how brothers are going to protect the sisters.”

Braided bracelets go for $ 5 each with proceeds to the Surrey Coalition Against Domestic Abuse.
