Inmate escapes from B.C. corrections facility

VANCOUVER – Police say an inmate escaped today from a work detail in Kamloops, B.C.

Staff Sgt. Grant Learned says 22-year-old Steven Michael Hodgins was on a detail outside the fenced perimeter of Kamloops Regional Corrections Centre when he escaped at about 9:30 a.m.

Learned says Hodgins has a freckled complexion, is about five-feet, eight-inches tall and is about 162 pounds.

He has short brown hair and blue eyes.

Learned says Hodgins is a prolific property-crime offender and does not have a history of violence.

He says, though, that members of the public should not attempt to capture Hodgins.
