Inquest set for Monday in mushroom farm workers’ deaths

A coroner’s inquest into the deaths of three men, killed by a gas leak at a Langley mushroom farm in 2008, is set to begin Monday.

Sixteen-year-old Tracey Phan, whose father was left brain-damaged in the same incident, says the inquest will give her family a place to rest.

“We’re stuck wondering what happened, who’s telling the truth who isn’t, and we’re just hoping for justice that is coming out of this and just preventing anything like this happening in the future.”

The inquest was announced last December after Worksafe BC found the deaths could have been prevented.

The farm’s owners have been handed $ 35,000 in fines, but – to the families’ outrage – were not sent to jail.
