Judgement reserved in police misconduct case

The BC Court of Appeal has reserved judgement after hearing about a man beaten up by Vancouver Police two years ago in a case of mistaken identity.

The officers were initially cleared of misconduct, but BC’s Police Complaint Commissioner wants to hold a public hearing into what happened to Yao Wei Wu.

Delta Police investigated the incident, but court has heard the commissioner finds their report flawed.

Lawyer Mike Feder with the BC Civil Liberties Association says, “he suffered an injury to his face and the concern of the police complaint commissioner is that the investigation that followed his complaint didn’t properly explore the causes of his facial injury.”

In other words, the commissioner argues Delta Police did not tell the doctor who treated Wu that Wu was accusing the police of assaulting him.
