Jumbo Resort gets the green light

Despite ongoing opposition from First Nations leaders and the New Democrats, the BC goverment has created a new resort municipality at the site of a controversial new ski development.

The master plan for the Jumbo Glacier resort was approved in March, following a 20-year review process.

The minister responsible, Bill Bennett, is defending the the 450-million dollar project 55 kilometres west of Invermere, saying it is vital to the economy of the region.

He denies today’s decision was rushed in anticipation of May’s election.
