Lake says no need to rush on Enbridge

A day after making five demands preempting BC’s endorsement of the Northern Gateway pipeline, Environment Minister Terry Lake insists there’s no rush to say yes or no to the mega-project.

“We actually want to base our position on information. We are still in that information gathering stage.”

Lake says the environmental assessment process won’t be completed until September of next year.

“After that, there are a lot of other things that need to come together because the proposal, for instance, doesn’t really talk about what happens after the oil gets out of the Douglas channel and so, we’ve made it clear to Canada, we need to see a system in place that would absolutely reduce the risk.”

He’s also downplaying Alberta Premier Alison Redford’s rejection of BC’s demands,  saying he expects her to stand up for her own province.

Lake was speaking with CKNW’s Philip Till.
